“I’m going to stay and fix my church somehow," says Kori Pacyniak, MDiv '11, who was eight when they told their grandmother they wanted to become a priest.
"People who are against any compromise in this direction will see this as another sign that Francis has gone astray, that he is not adhering to church teaching. And they will add this to their list of complaints about him," says HDS Parkman Professor of Divinity Francis X. Clooney, S.J.
"I think it's because they want that professional degree, and they want the respect that should come with that," said Patricia Simpson, counselor to Roman Catholic Students and Instructor in Ministry Studies at HDS. "I think they want to be able to state that they've prepared academically to the same level as ... the men being ordained."
