HDS communications reached out to our 2021 graduating students to hear from them in their own words about their experiences at HDS, the people who've helped and inspired them along their grad school journeys, and their plans for the future.

How I've Changed

I have grown more confident and relaxed, trusting in my own lived experience. I trust that everything is going to be all right, even if the way forward is not clear. "Faith works best in the dark."—Kierkegaard.

Most Memorable Moment

Seasons of Light services both in person and virtually.

Favorite Class or Professor

Any course taught by Stephanie Paulsell, Karen King’s "New Testament," Marshall Ganz's "Public Narrative," and Kaia Stern’s "Transformative Justice."

Messages of Thanks

Kerry Maloney’s unwavering spiritual support. Steph Gauchel’s support with some unexpected medical challenges. Jamie Johnson-Riley’s support navigating HDS academic requirements. Valerie Cummings's support navigating coursework and life/family demands. Laura Tuach for teaching us how to make meaning. Stephanie Paulsell who, through her example, inspires me daily about the true meaning of ministry.

What I Hope to Be Remembered By

Who we are is enough and we don’t have to do this alone.

Future Plans

Spacious summer followed by year-long hospital chaplain residency starting August!
