HDS communications reached out to our 2021 graduating students to hear from them in their own words about their experiences at HDS, the people who've helped and inspired them along their grad school journeys, and their plans for the future.

Words of Inspiration

Congratulations everyone! I'm so happy we all made it through such a taxing year as a community of students and friends. It is an honor to graduate and celebrate with you all, even if we must do so virtually!

Messages of Thanks

Thank you to all of my professors and teachers at HDS, especially to my advisor, Charles Stang. I cannot emphasize enough how enriching it has been to study under you. Thank you, also, to all of the staff at HDS, who have provided essential scaffolding for so much of the research and teaching that goes on at HDS, especially in this past year.

Memorable Moment

Honestly, the first time some classmates and I met up after a class to get drinks together will always have a special place in my heart. My undergraduate institution was in a tiny town where people didn't really go out like that, and it was so exhilarating to get to know my classmates in a more casual environment like that. Becuse of our hangouts outside of class, we forged lasting friendships, for which I am infinitely thankful.

What I Hope to Be Remembered By

I hope that my contributions to class discussions helped create an environment of inquiry and ongoing conversation that has impacted our thoughts and actions outside of the classroom as well. My classmates have certainly provided me with such reflective contributions, and I can only hope that I returned the favor!

Future Plans

I am delighted to say that I will be staying at Harvard to begin doctoral study in the Committee on the Study of Religion next fall. I look forward to seeing the faculty, staff, and some of my fellow HDS students next year!
